Based on the book Haunted Alton by Troy Taylor, visitors can journey from this world to the next and uncover eerie folklore, ghostly tales and documented haunted spots -- along with a dark history of death, war, murder and strange deeds that has long plagued the region! Discover how the history of the past has created the hauntings of today in this wonderful and unique little river town!
The evening includes a three-hour walking tour
(or longer, depending on the tour) of the city’s most haunted sites
– which was listed in Illinois Magazine's
"Best in Illinois" Issue – and visitors will see sites that have
become nationally known, like the old Alton penitentiary and the
First Unitarian Church (which appeared in The Learning Channel show
“Mysterious Worlds”), the Enos Sanitorium and many
others! Be a part of the region’s only interactive tour, where you
don’t just talk about haunted places – you experience them!
The tour has proven to be popular with ghost enthusiasts and history buffs alike and nowhere else can you learn as much about the real, haunted history of Alton! We, of course, never guarantee that anything supernatural will happen in the course of our tours, but be warned... strange things have happened in the past! This may be your chance to meet some of the former residents of Alton.. face to face!
The Alton Hauntings Tours are History & Hauntings Walking Tours of the old Riverfront Area of Alton and Visit a Collection of the Most Haunted Sites in the City. The tours are hosted by author Troy Taylor and American Ghost Society investigators Len Adams & Luke Naliborski.
Public Tours: While Public Tours are offered throughout the spring, summer and fall, the tours in greatest demand are for the Halloween season. Tickets are Available for the Alton Hauntings Tours in October of each year. The tickets go on sale around Labor Day and are reserved on a first come / first served basis. The Halloween season includes both our History & Hauntings Walking Tours & Ghost Hunter's Tours. Price range from $20 - $30.
Private Tours: Private Alton Hauntings Tours are available for groups of 20 people or more. A 45-day notice and deposit are required for reservations. Private tours also include both standard and deluxe options and prices start at $20 per person. Check with us about customizing your tour! (Note: We do not offer Private Tours during the month of October)

Haunted Walking Tours: This is our Alton Hauntings Tour of spirited sites in old downtown Alton area and each tour lasts approximately 3 - 3 1/2 hours. The tour will include not only the ghost stories behind each of the reputedly haunted sites, but their detailed history as well. This tour has proven to be especially popular with ghost enthusiasts and history buffs alike and includes visits inside haunted locations (number depends on availability), odd and unusual stories and facts about the city and more! Prices begin at $20 per person.
Ghost Hunter's Tour: An expanded edition of the Haunted Walking Tour with additional locations and a "behind the scenes" look at the places that make Alton so haunted! More History, More Hauntings and an additional hour of sites that aren't normally featured on the standard tours! Lasts approximately 4 - 4 1/2 hours. Prices begin at $30 per person.
